To add to the above, a good ups will put out a true sine wave current. This 
is what you get over your power lines. The cheaper ups will give you a square 
wave output which generally works but tends to be hard on sensitive equipment.
Since you would only have it on for a few minutes while power down occurs it 
won't cause a problem. AMC makes some good ups that will work with the APM 
programs in Mandrake.  They are the best I have found at a price I can afford 
(so far). HTH
