Hi guys,

I have an 8.2 linux server under my desk and a laptop dual booting winXP and
mdk8.2.
I also have a win2000 server on my network, (its all for testing scripts on
different platforms.)

anyway, my problem is some weird interaction between XP and samba...

The win2000 box can access all smb shares on the linux machines, fast and
easy.

The laptop booted to linux can also browse the samba shares on the linux
server easily.

but when the laptop is booted to XP, and I try to access a share on the smb
server, it takes ages for it to open the shares... (most of the time,
sometimes, like immediately after a "service smb restart" it happens
quickly.)

If the win2000 box can do it instantly, and the laptop booted to linux can
do it instantly also, (its all 100+ network)
Then the problem must be some interaction between XP and Samba on the linux
server...

Has anyone come accross this before??

The following samba packages are installed.

samba-common-2.2.3a-10mdk
samba-swat-2.2.3a-10mdk
samba-client-2.2.3a-10mdk
samba-2.2.3a-10mdk
samba-doc-2.2.3a-10mdk
samba-winbind-2.2.3a-10mdk

I think they are all standard 8.2 packages.

Any help resolving this would be very much appreciated, its driving me nuts
going to save a file to the linux box and having to wait for 2 minutes for
it to show up in the save dialog box (the server itself shows up fine, its
just the contents of a share that takes ages, and its any share on the box,
they are all really slow, (there are about 10 different shares on the linux
box's 40 gig hard disk.

Any ideas on this one would be truely fantastic.

regards

Franki
