That depends, did you specify /home to be a seperate partition when you setup 7.1???
 
if not, then make a tar.gz file of all the stuff you want to keep.. copy it off that PC and wipe the whole linux partitions. (when diskdrake comes up during the install, you can remove the linux partitions and start from scratch. and this time make a seperate /home directory.)
 
A clean install is faster, neater and less problems then an upgrade.
