That happens to me, too. My feeling is that it's a result of one of two things: 1) Upgrading to KDE 3.0.2, or 2) messing with Ximian Gnome before there were Mandrake-specific RPMs available. I can still run the M. Control Center from a terminal after I su to root, so I'm just waiting for 9 final to start afresh.
