Are there any consequences or hurdles in having multiple distibutions connecting to a specific distribution server with Samba? In this scenario, a hardware firewall/router provides Internet access and DHCP for all machines.
Example: Wks 1 = RH 6.1 Wks 2 = MDK 7.2 Server = MDK 8.2 Will all workstations be able to recognize and utilize shared space on the server (Samba) through using their own respective distribution's Samaba clients (dsitribution and version as it applies, but assume the same glibc libraries)? Or in other words, must all workstations use the same version and distribution of client as at the server? TIA, Paul P.S. Let's not focus on the "Why?", but on the "Will it work?" Thanks! :-)
