If you don't want to move to 9.0, the Mandrake Club has RPMs for 8.2. It's not quite painless - slight sting in the wallet region - but the packager has done an excellent job. (Unlike KDE, the installation of a new version of Gnome is a bit of a shambles, with packages everywhere). If you are _really_ daring you could try Garnome, which builds Gnome 2 from scratch via some cunningly-devised scripts.
