At a guess:

1.  Get out of X and into command line mode (I can't remember whether 
9.0 lets you do this from the logout screen - if not, go to the Control 
Center and change the Boot settings to Runlevel 3, or whatever they term 
non-X mode).

2.  Uninstall your old X-Free server.

3. Install XFree86-3-whatever (use urpmi rather than rpm -i, in case 
there are any dependency issues.

4.  Run XFdrake or XF86Config

5. Run startx, then do any necessary tweaking frm the Control Center.
