It (snd-emu10k1) is the ALSA driver :) Note:
snd-emu10k1 == ALSA , and
emu10k1 == OSS.
'less /etc/modules.conf | grep sound-slot' should tell you what driver
you are running.

What happens if you select that option? Maybe there is a problem with
the GUI. Btw, AFAIK ML9.0 uses the ALSA driver by default for your card.
