First you configure it using: make config OR make menuconfig OR make xconfig Then, here's the basic sequence of compile parameters that I use (some people use different ones): make dep make clean make bzImage make modules make modules_install Then copy the image (/usr/src/linux/arch/i386/bzImage - I think.
