The main problem is Microsoft do not want Linux to have access to XP's 
version of NTFS and have made it illegal for anyone to reverse engineer it.

The legal way around this is either make XP all Fat32, worsens security, or 
make a small Fat32 D: partition which will be able to be read by both Linux & 
XP.
