And they're not all that hard to configure. External modems are nice, but you DO have to make sure you can get drivers for them. USR's are definately the best and have been recommended for *NIX systems for quite a long time (more than 10 years). Otherwise, you can pick up a cheap but nice PCI modem just about anywhere - and as long as the chipset meets the requirements just mentioned, y'all should be good to go in no time at all.
