If you switch your Runlevel from 3 to 5 on the default distro, you will
get a screen from XDM which has a pull down menu to select the window
environment. Switching runlevels means your machine will run in X all the
time.
To fix the unmount problem, download the latest kernel and initscript
updates, available both on the mandrake webpage at www.mandrake-linux.com,
or more conveniently, from the application on the default desktop labelled
updates. This program is also on the menu at K->System->Mandrake Updates.
The first time you run this you will be prompted to select a mirror to
pull from.
