To fix the unmount problems, get the kernel updates and initscript updates
either by direct ftp or when in Xwindows.  See the mandrake web page for
further details, under the updates section.  This fixes the partition busy
message and help you reboot correctly.

Have you considered re-installing, and then immediately installing these
updates?
