Regrettably I could not get Mandrake 9.0 to work successfully on my laptop, and the problem is in the IDE detection code. I have already posted some information about the symptoms I saw, perhaps they will be useful to the folks at Mandrake. It seems that the kernel they built does not properly support the ICH3M chipset: I would love to see the exact errors the rest of you are getting.

How ever, many of the same things that are talked about here apply to redhat as well as linux in general. thanks -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Alexander Rayborn Sent: Saturday, November 30, 2002 10:43 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] Red Hat rescues me [adr] I hate to say it, but Mandrake 9.0 lost this battle. I gave up trying to recompile kernels to fix my problem - I gave Red Hat v8.0 a shot (I like Gnome anyway)... and voila, no problems with my P4B533-E motherboard. Works beautifully and runs well.
