IIRC, a Mandrake source said some time ago that their deal with the distributor/retailers netted them about 30% of the retail cost of the boxed set. I believe this is higher if the boxed sets are purchased thru the MandrakeStore, but they still lose quite a bit to printing, packaging, distribution, etc. expenses. I bet if you could get that 'Fictional Mandrake Exec' off to the side in confidence, the person would probly say "Yeah, I wish we didn't even have to fool around with gettin those damn boxes out. It's a real big drain on our resources and manpower, at just the worst time in our release cycle". For those that beg, borrow, steal, d/l, or buy cheap CD's, THEN join the Club, Mandrake nets 95+% of the cash. (100% - transaction costs).
