I should mention that I didn't install dhcpcd as an add-on stand alone install. I'm not sure which option I checked during the installation of Mandrake 9.0 that caused it to be installed but it was ready to go as soon as the OS installation finished. I think it probably was the "Network Computer (client)" option but I'm not sure.

Also, I can't pretend to be an expert in this area and I'm happy to be corrected if proven wrong but I was under the impression that the name "Linux" primarily applies to the kernel and that pretty much __everything_else__ is GNU or some other 3rd party software. In this case, the Mandrake 9.0 distribution packages everything you need in order to use dynamic IP's from your DHCP server.

Was it your contention that that functionality should be included in the kernel?

My contention was that I was frustrated as hell, have made an ass of myself & am hereby shutting up Carl :P

Heh to be more to the point, I guess I was wondering why the DHCP client isn't installed when I asked for DHCP services. I don't know it wasn't installed mind you either. But figuring it wasn't working seemed to point to something being uninstalled or amiss at the least.
Anyway I'm leaving it alone... it works, so fook it. :)
