If you're on a network and want to be able to connect to or view a Windows machine, you're going to have to configure SAMBA with your workgroup/domain settings. Once you've done that, you can mount the Windows shares. As far as running Windows programs via samba over a network, well, give it a go mate...I personally don't like to use wine THROUGH a network....locally, yes...network?
