Try this (as root),
rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*
( ^^ that's two underscores )
rpm --rebuilddb
'updatedb' updates your slocate database, and it can't hurt to run
it often. I sync to cooker several times a day with urpmi and
usually run 'upall' after a lot, or major updates.
alias upall='rpm --rebuilddb && updatedb && update-menus -n &&
ldconfig'
