I'd be interested to know if anyone else finds this guy exemplary of the

Sounds like a typical Windows, probable Mac convert to me. I found it amusing too, definately the wrong coloured hat for the desktop.
True - with Mandrake, he wouldn't have had all the problems with software installation (except for the RealPlayer renaming thing - why the hell do they do that?). In general, software installation under Mandrake is much easier than Windows. Once in a while I go into Windows and install a game, and it's like reliving a bad childhood memory - close all running programs, find the installation program, watch your screen fill up with said program, find you don't have the right version of DirectX, download DirectX, install DirectX, go back to the installation program, install, reboot ... I've had easier times compiling source code from CVS.
