gnome seems to have trouble handling audio. I've had no trouble at all
under kde since I figured out that I had to use sndconf (sp) to detect my
PnP sound card while installing 6.0. Gnome, however, I couldn't get to
work correctly: I could double click on a file (I tested with mp3) and it
would play in the background (I had no way of stopping it or controlling
it in any other way) or I could specify a program to open with (X11Amp)
and the program would start and recognize the mp3's label but it would
either not play without giving any reason for the failure or it would give
an error about the device being unaccessible, or something to that effect.
I didn't bother with Gnome after upgrading to kde.
