   AMR is short for 'audio modem riser'. It's a fake sound card with a 
phone line connector attached. More capable of being a fake sound 
card than a modem. The best idea would be to replace it with a real 
modem, both for performance and compatibility purposes. You might 
find a driver to compensate for it's lack of real hardware 
capabilities at  http://www.linmodems.org/   ... but I doubt it
