You can change the format that streamer records with
from man streamer:
EXAMPLES
streamer -o foobar.jpeg
write a single jpeg file.
streamer -o quicktime.mov -f yuv2 -F stereo -r 12 -t 120
record a short quicktime movie (120 frames / 12 fps => 10 sec-
onds).
