If that port is not open on the mail server, then the message will not
send..

Nothing strange about that.. I't can't send to a mail server that isn't
accepting connections on the port you have set.

You're absolutely correct. However what I was driving at (obviously I wasn't very clear) is that if I uncheck the security setting (IE that one that tried access port 995) & revert to my old settings, the email if open still will not send.

Iow, If the email is still open/in the composition window, no matter whether the settings are correct again it still won't send until I close that email & go to compose a new one.
