Well, Mandrake was originally based on RedHat, the biggest difference is
apart from installationmethods is in my opinion the package handeling
system.
Yes, both Mandrake and Redhat has RPM's but then you have Debian and
Debianbased systems that uses deb's and apt-get is IMO far bettter then the
RPM-system, esp when it comes to ease to use. You perhaps wants to upgrade
the whole dist...apt-get does that for you. They also differ a bit in ease
to use
generally, some distros more or less hides the console for you, well not
really
but it gives you the fancy GUI's to work with. Personally I like the console
for
most things, it is powerful and gives you control.

Personally I am setting out on an endeavour to learn and use FreeBSD along
with
Linux.
