well depmod -a and updatedb are always good ideas after extensive updating, 
and rpm --rebuilddb, too, but the most critical thing is ALWAYS INSTALL the 
kernel, never update it.

updates are extensively tested by Vincent Danen, by his security team, and by 
QA before they are released  We even have dodges for an rpm whose %postun 
stanza removes links, to reestablish them afterward in the case of update.
