A couple of shots in the dark, but maybe they will help. I have had X fail to start when the partition that had /tmp on it was full. This prevented xfs (font server) from starting; nVidia graphics? When you boot to runlevel 3 and try and start XFree with startx, what error messages do you get? -- Greg
