mbot, I can't help you with Xine (never use it), but many sound-related problems can be fixed by changing the various settings (gliders) in KMix ( in K --> Multimedia --> Sound --> KMix.) Try that first, especially the CD-glider. If that doesn't work, check the hardware. Sometimes the connecting cable from the CD-drive to the motherboard is loose, or not present at all. Eventually, check the settings in CD-Player (KsCD). You can find them by clicking the *hammer&screwdriver* on the main panel. Then, make sure that the CD-ROM device is corresponding to your CD-Drive. For instance : if your CD-Drive is the *master* on the second IDE-device, the setting should read : /dev/hdc (provided you don't use scsi-emulation). - And remember : audio CD's aren't *mounted* - they contain no real filesystem. On the other hand, if you prefer to listen to CD's from Xmms, adjust the settings here : Under *preferences* toggle to the Audio CD-tab and adjust that in the same manner. But here, you can select a directory as well. It should read something like : */mnt/cdrom* . I admit this is confusing, but it works.
