Well I don't have the frustration Lyvim was talking about since I start
DrakConf from an Eterm Su'ed to root. I can see the operation of any of the
four components.
1. You cannot be using more than one of the functions at a time
2. Tech support is MUCH easier
3. Error recovery is much better than previous versions where a broken
download could require sources removal and recalculation because the headers
were messed up. I can still break things by the following method:
a. Start up Konqueror with a split screen and put one on a site like contribs
b. Drag files to the local disk and wait a few hours for half or so to copy
c. Now issue a command like
urpmi.addmedia -f contribs file://home/tester/B/rpms
d. Allow the download to complete
This breaks things rather nicely though you can install the packages that were
already complete when you did the addmedia. I don't know what sort of
interlock will be needed to stop this subtle error.
But deliberately disconnecting my DSL during an update doesn't seem to make
the horrid snarl in /var/lib/urpmi that it used to.
So if they want to make four interfaces to simplify user confusion and tech
support (both in diagnosis and advice), why not? I still see all four with
my method of looking--I do type DrakConf instead of rpmdrake, and I go
through one additional screen but that is a small price to pay for superior
error recovery.
