I set up a cron jobs to play a real stream at a certain time. It didn't. Then I set up a job to run a Perl script every 15 minutes. It seemed like it wasn't doing it, but when I did a ps ax at the specified times, it turns out it _was_ doing its job.
realplay still isn't doing its job, but I've verified cron is working, so at least I know where to concentrate my diagnostic efforts.
