Hi,

I was surfing some web sites last night using Konqueror and I warning
window popped up saying that something or other "has an unauthorized link
to my machine". What does that mean? is it a virus or a hack attack or
what?

Thanx,

Seedkum
That "pop-up" was an advertisement - aimed at Windows users - or really,
anyone that is dumb enough to click the link in the window. It's a
highly illegal means by which to advertise - but it IS an advertisement.
With the amount of surfing that I do, I get those incessant buggers
often - and they suck.

You're running linux - no one's just going to "link" to your
machine...not unless you set it up, configure it and administer it.

The pop-up window did not show me any link to click. The pop-up had only an "OK" button. Is that how it would show up on Windows? or does Windows pop-up show a URL it asks you to click on? The pop-up appeared to me like a warning pop-up from the operating system (LM9.0).
I would assume that the OK button is itself a link, which will probably take you to some site advertising crappy Windows "protection" software (this is reminiscent of those cheesy Mafia films where two guys with black suits and carnations in their buttonholes walk into a shop and say "We think you need protection").

Silly popups and banner ads like these, or spam advertising antivirus software, just give me a warm feeling. Sometimes running Linux is like sitting in a well-insulated, double-glazed house watching the storm raging outside.
