Clifton; You're going to need to find out what the chipset ID is for this modem - Zoom or others may have a Rockwell chipset - but either which, you'll be able to locate a driver for linux rather quickly if you can find out the chipset information. Also, if you haven't been watching the thread - please check at www.linmodems.org to see further information about your modem. If it's a Zoom, it will eventually work with linux - and probably better than it would for Windows.
