The new 9.1 mdkkdm login screen doesn't allow root logins, as there
is no need to, and it's too frought with danger. Allowing root logins
was also a Mandrake support nightmare. Anything you need to do as
root can be done after logging in as user (with very few and rare
exceptions).
You can tho, still change the login manager to either gdm or kdm
(you'll need to install kdebase-kdm), and then you can login as root
and screw the system up if ya want to ;)
