Using the "Recommended" method of installation, and letting Mandrake sort out
its own partitioning, it uses ext3 and noatime. From the information I have
been able to find, noatime speeds things up with ext2, so presumably with
ext3 also.

I am wondering whether to do my own partitioning as I usually do, and to use
the reiserfs file system.

Does noatime also work with reiserfs? If it does, is the improvement
noticeable on a normal, single user, desktop machine?

I usually partition my Mandrake 40GB hard drive with a small boot, a swap
larger than my memory, a 2GB reiserfs home and the rest a reiserfs root.

I've not come across noatime before, so any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Keith
