When you generate a key a series of questions is asked, name, comment, email add, location etc. For some you must enter the info for others you can accept the default, but for whichever the info has to be entered individually not as a group. If you would prefer to do this with a GUI you can install seahorse which is in Contrib. After launching, from the Key menu select New and then just fill-in the boxes of the resulting pop-up.
