Mick;

That and all of the other settings if I recall correctly, are contained in the 
hidden kde directory in each user's home directory. For example:

file:/home/user-name-goes-here/.kde/share/config/kmailrc

Save that file (it's plain text) and put it back when you're done, you should 
be right.
