Looks to me like your .kde user is corrupted because all the other desktop GUI's work. Save the stuff you need from .kde (your address book is a big one), then rename the ~/.kde directory to something like .OLDkde. Try starting KDE again. It will probably work, creating a new ~/.kde in the process. You will lose all of your desktop settings, including mail settings, and have to recreate them from scratch, but other than that, no harm done.
