Bring on the Visigoths!

Was it the Visigoths that brought Rome down? I thought they lived in
France...got wiped out by the Church in Medieval times...

Either way, I like being on the side that's gonna kick some arrogant
MS/Rome butt comin up real soon. :-D

By the time the Roman Empire was in serious decline, everyone was having a go - Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Huns, plus the Persians in the East and a mishmash of minor German tribes who had to be content with the lean pickings in Britain. But it was Alaric the Visigoth who has the dubious distinction of being the first to sack Rome, after a long siege in 410. After his death, the Visigoths moved to France where, IIRC, they combined forces with the Romans to fight Atilla the Hun to a standstill in 453.

Incidentally, when I was checking the date of Alaric's sack of Rome, I happened on a page where every instance of "goth" had been replaced by "goblin". Is this the result of too much playing D&D, or has the dreaded MS spellchecker been at work again?
