This is not true when you are talking about Transgaming WineX. This is
a special development branch of Wine that is being commercially
developed for gamers. This program has made alot of progress and has
been immensely successful in running such huge massive games as
Morrowind, Battlefield 1942, Diablo 2, Max Payne, and many more others
too numerous to mention here. With that success they have also started
running applications. One example is Total Commander, which is an
excellent plugin based file handling interface which I needed for some
exotic file handling work. WineX allowed me to do that without
resorting to use of a dual boot machine.

WineX is making strides because they are gathering in revenue from their
product which allows them to pay their programmers, and in so doing
drive the development forward. In many ways, it has contributed to the
stabilization of the Wine project.

I strongly suggest you take a look at www.transgaming.com if you are
interested in running windows games or applications. It's well worth
the effort.

Using WineX I've eliminated all my dual boot machines here except for
one.
