KDE may have a bug.
I sometimes fail in sending, and it ends up in the out-box.
I have to get it and choose re-send, sometimes several times before it will 
send.  Only happens every couple of weeks.
I think I'm going to try the earlier suggestion to default to send later, and 
enable interval mail checking with a default to send que messages...
