I'm thinking maybe that the "Save Session" in kicker isn't available by default, as the current session is automatically saved. Go to: Start Applications > Configuration > KDE > Components > Session Manager, and make sure the option to "Restore manually saved session" is selected. I think that will give you the "Save Session" in kicker. I should add the usual disclaimer, "YMMV", but, I hope not too much. ;-) HTH.
