Postfix will work without a FQDN, but only as long as you are only running a local server for local delivery and smarthosting for remote mail sending. In short, as long as you aren't actually trying to originate mail out to mainstream mail servers. If you are trying to actively send using smtp on port 25, failure to have a FQDN with a MX record will get your traffic denied on most mainstream mail servers. -- Bryan Phinney Software Test Engineer
