The Nigerian stuff is spam and not a virus. You could class the people
who send them as a virus though. But no software could check for that.

Soliciting someone to send you a virus is probably never a good idea.
Why not 
go to one of the antivirus sites and download one of the test
signatures.

Or better yet, simply change the filename on any small binary to 
your_document.pif, then compose a message with Subject "Re: Your
application" 
, Body "Please see the attached file" and the attachment and sent it to
your 
email address.  If it gets routed into your virus directory as Sobig,
then it 
is working.

Please do NOT send such a message to anyone else, even if it doesn't
contain 
the actual virus.  The FBI has been getting fairly trigger happy on
hackers 
these days.
