I prefer to do any updating of either Guh-nome or Krawl-DE whilst either
completely outside of XWindows or in XFCE4/Fuxbox...just makes for
nice-nice to the sys-sys.
 

I'd go along with this.  You _can_ upgrade KDE from within KDE (I've 
done it) but it means if things go wrong, they could go very wrong.
