Hrmm..., sounds like LILO is trying to boot Linux through DOS, as you
surmised. If you can boot Linux with a boot disk, try editing your
/etc/lilo.conf file with a text editor from within Linux. To do this, use
either a konsole window from X-windows or run the following command from the
Console screen outside of X:
pico /etc/lilo.conf
This will start the pico editor with the /etc/lilo.conf file loaded. Pico is
quite simple to use, it's about on a par with the DOS edit command, however
it is a keyboard oriented editor. I think you will have to do this as
"root".
Then check the file to be sure that LILO is loading Linux from the partition
on which you have installed it. I'd almost bet that for some reason, the
configuration file is pointing to the DOS partition. Then in any case, when
you are sure that the configuration file is pointing to the Linux partition,
quit pico (the exit options are at the bottom of the display), saving any
changes you may have made there, and run the LILO tool by simply entering
the command lilo [ENTER] at the prompt. This will rewrite the LILO boot
loader to the MBR with your new configuration, or with the configuration in
the lilo.conf file. I do not know if this will work, but it sure sounds
better than another re-do! Let me know how it works out,
