Look - last year when MicroSCOft smeared the media with "Microsoft's
lower TCO" I'd already been through it dozens of times since 1992; it's
part of their business model - business plan.

MicroSCOft has consistently shown (and continues to do so) that they
have absolutely no care about the "end user" or whether or not their
software is stable or secure - it's about selling, current sales and
future sales. Nothing more.

They're cutting their own throats and don't even realise that they're
actually causing a major decline in "Windows innovation"; which is
really too bad.

All of this is only good for the likes of me because I'm not having to
push or convince people by much about using OSS/GNU/linux based software
or services or OS's...slowly but surely, "Joe Sixpack" small biz owner
is realising that M$ has and is blowing brown steam, lip service and
false promises...

This arvo I went to the Illawarra Computer Enthusiasts first day meeting
- and, as has become my ritual, recited the latest threats, viruses and
trojan alerts - beginning with "I have to apologise for once again
having to spout off about the gloom and doom that's out there waiting
for y'all" (which the ladies love cuz of my accent) - but instead of
catching shit later from some of the blokes about "Gosh, you're an MS
Slammer, ain't ya?" - more and more people are seeking an alternative to
either Internet Explorer, MS Outlook, MS Outlook Express - or even to
Windows out and out.

Remember, these ain't no techies - just "end users" that want to know
more about their computers and how to use them - and today I had several
requests to do a live presentation doing an installation of linux (still
up in the air as to which distro I'll choose - so I might ask for the
advise of some of y'all here)(bad joke)...but the interest is finally
getting down to the public. They're sick and tired of the BS game.
Christ, some folks there still are running Win95 because they ain't got
the money to upgrade their machines and certainly ain't got the money to
upgrade the damn OS (not that I didn't offer them a *demo* copy of
whatever OS they wanted...)...so go figure on the TCO bit...

I'll hop offa the soapbox now...just been stewing over this shit more
and more and it ain't getting better...but at least I'm comforted in the
fact that I ain't getting hit with no nasties, my email client ain't
relaying shit for some no-name f-wit somewhere in BFE, and no one is
casually capturing my keystrokes remotely...and what did I pay for my
OS? Nothing. What did I pay for the three office suites I got? Nothing.
Hmmm...seems that the TCO here at home is certainly a bit lower than say
what the next door neighbours are having to deal with...

/end silly rant
