You want to make sure that you are either using some good generic scsi drivers 
in the burning program or that you have correctly identified the drive type.  
Small differences can result in major problems.

Also, if you are trying to burn at max speed and get coasters, you may want to 
try specifying a reduced speed for burning.  Most CD Burners try to read the 
available speed off the media but the media is not always accurate, I 
routinely get CD's that report a capable speed of 24x but end up coasters if 
I try to burn that fast, I have to drop it to 16x for those.

If you are copying other CD's, keep in mind that Copy Protection can mess 
things up.  If you are copying someone else's ISO, you may want to mount it 
as a loopback device and check the properties.  I have had initial 
configuration difficulties with Xcdroast and K3B but have both working now 
without any problems or errors.
