Mike,

Try typing "sndconfig" from the command line if your modem is ISA. Using
sndconfig, you can configure the modem by assigning the appropriate dmas, i/os,
mpus, and irqs. Two audio tests are conducted to confirm your settings. If your
modem is PNP, sndconfig may autodectect it. If your m.board has a built-in
sound-card (and you don't want to use it), disable it in the bios - this seems
to cause some problems in configuration (it did for me, at least).

Also, you may  want to pick up lothar. It's available on the mandrake site. I
found this programme helpful in configuring other audio-related things.
