Yes, but there is no such thing as 100% security. But I doubt the ordinary burglar has access to a linux boot disk - and the skill to use it. My guess is, that he uses another popular OS, uncapable to read a linux file system. To him, there's nothing than gibberish on the disk. If you are paranoid, keep sensitive material outside a PC, locked down in a safe in a locked and guarded room. Booby-trap it and hope for the best.
