If it *is* installed, you should be able to simple call it from the
command line like you tried:

gnumeric (case sensitive remember!)

if it is not coming up, it is either not installed properly or not in
your PATH, most likely the former.

as root, do:

updatedb

then as regular user do:

locate gnumeric

Post the output here.
