Wael: You have a winmodem. If you are unfamiliar with the term, winmodems are not real modems, but rely on software drivers. They are intended to work with Windows, but people have developed ways to make them run under Linux. The best source of information is: http://linmodems.org You may also find useful information in the newbie archives, as this is a common question. BTW, the newer versions of Mandrake are able to recognize and configure _some_ winmodems automagically, so you should consider installing 9.1 (or 9.2). -- cmg
